Job Site

If you are from the UK and looking for a job site, this resource page will show you which ones are the best for you.

For a job site to be relevant, it must have the jobs in the location you want (some only have UK jobs, some don’t cover Scotland, etc), and cover the market or profession you are qualified for.

A Job Site For Everyone

Here are some of the job site listings you should consider for your employment searches.

Top Job Site Listings

http://www.totaljobs.com/

Total Jobs focuses on the types of job available, so when you go there, you’ll see industry listings prominently displayed. Choices include Accountancy, Aerospace, Banking, Catering, Construction, Electronics, Nursing, HR, IT, Legal, Marketing, PR, Retail jobs, secretarial and administrative jobs, senior executive jobs, leisure jobs, and more.

They are getting on the ball when it comes to giving helpful advice for job seekers, so near the bottom of the total jobs page, you’ll see pages like the salary checker, CV advice, job alerts by email, career selection tips, and something rather strange they call working age advice (seems they want to tell us about changes in the legal limits for working).

http://JobSite.co.uk

They have one nice feature: upload a cv and they will scan your acronyms and keywords and find matches with employers and send you job alerts that match your needs.

Offer career advice with online learning, CV checks, personal profile tests and even advice for when you’ve been let go.

They also list the top 10 recruitment companies based on what other searchers have said, and this list can help you find the agencies that can best help you.

There’s also an insider’s blog that gives you tips and advice on preparing to enter (or re-enter) the job market. There are tips on getting noticed, being prepared for what you’ll experience, and other useful advice.

You can also search by job type, and simply select on of the job categories such as Accounts and Finance, IT Jobs, Retail Jobs, Sales Jobs, Marketing Jobs, Telecommunication Jobs, Engineering Jobs, and even Graduate Jobs.

If you are an international employer, there is a handy mastercard and Visa payment option to get your job listing activated quickly. Employers have an option to be spotlighted, so they appear as a link on the home page.
http://www.fish4.co.uk/

Fish4Jobs is not a nautical job site. It is just a play on words about searching for work, and this brightly colored site is very easy to find your way around.

One of the things they do is highlight the key employers, and you’ll see that in the bright orange buttons below the job categories.

They are good if you are looking for things like NHS jobs, christmas jobs, temp jobs in Birmingham, NHS jobs in a variety of cities (NHS jobs in London, in Southampton, in Edinburgh, and so on).

When it comes to helpful advice, this site is a bit thin, and while they do have a post on cv preparation, and one on career advice, it’s not so well developed as total jobs or jobsite.

http://jobs.guardian.co.uk/

Guardian jobs is, as you’d expect it, all the jobs that got posted in the paper. There are a lot of employers who still trust the big daily newspapers to get the word out about a job opening, especially in places like London and Manchester, and so you shouldn’t ignore the listings in the papers, because there may be some hot jobs that are listed there and not elsewhere.

NHS Job Site

http://www.jobs.nhs.uk/

There seems to be a keen interest in healthcare jobs in the UK, and even the NHS is joining in the act of posting openings and listing the spots where they are hiring.  The pay per annum is good I hear.

Instead of going to s1 jobs or one of the other major job recruiting websites, you can go directly to NHS jobs and find that nursing jobs, a physician assistant job, or a myriad of other healthcare and health administration positions in a variety of locations.

http://www.reed.co.uk/

Reed calls itself the number one job site in the UK, and while they do have a number of good listings, the work they’ve put into their site and their branding online still leaves room for improvement.

That sign of weakness doesn’t mean the jobs aren’t good, so be sure to look at the many, many jobs they have listed, and see if this is the job site that can give you the employment and work conditions you desire.
